Sleep

October 14, 2010

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of quality sleep a person needs, especially when that person is an athlete or bodybuilder trying to add size to his physique or get into competition shape. Sleep in when your body allows itself to shut down and rebuild, your central nervous system rests, your heart rate suppresses and metabolic system reactivates. This is a processing time where blood flows to the areas that need it the most to rebuild and restore, and you get an overall system reboot. When someone does not get the proper rest they need their body goes into shock, they start to feel tired, they get weaker, their metabolisms start to shut down, they can retain water and retain fat and they get stress lines in their eyes an or under the eyes. This can be the first sign of over-training, when and if this happens, you should immediately take a day or 2 off from training and cardio and get some well deserved rest. Not listening to your body when this happens can result in all of the negative effects I mentioned above as well as loss of appetite and sex drive. At this time it may be a good idea to take in some extra calories unless of course you are dieting and you are not scheduled for a cheat meal.

However, by making sure you get a good 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep a night, you can avoid all of this and continue to make great progress in your training and dieting regimen.

I offer all of these services and I educate all of my clients with the knowledge that I have learned through the years of my career.
